If it says NTFS, HPFS, EXT4 or something else, it will not work in a Garmin device. If the card is correctly formatted, you will see FAT32 as in the screen shot below: If you need to check, then insert the card into your Windows computer, and Right-Click on the drive letter shown for the card, and select Properties. Garmin devices only support MicroSD cards that are formatted as FAT32. If you use a MicroSD card that is not brand new, and that has been used in another device (such as a smartphone, camera, etc.) it probably won’t be formatted correctly. The MicroSD card should be between 8GB and 32GB in size cards larger than 32GB are not officially supported by Garmin devices and will not be formatted correctly anyway. This method is slower and than using the MicroSD card directly in the computer. You want to install the map to the MicroSD card (not the internal storage). D: and E:) The first new drive letter is the internal storage of the Garmin device, the second one is usually the MicroSD card. If you don’t have an adapter or an SD slot on your computer, or a USB card reader/writer, you can put the MicroSD card into the Garmin device instead and connect that to your Windows PC via the USB cable (this will then show up in the File Manager, as two new drive letters, e.g. Or you can use a USB Card Reader/Writer that has a MicroSD card slot in it instead of an MicroSD to SD adaptor. Then insert that in the side/back of your Windows PC (depending on computer model). You will need to insert the MicroSD card into an adapter (MicroSD to SD adaptor), which looks like this: You can change this behaviour by clicking on the View tab in Windows File Manager (explorer.exe) and tick the “File name extensions” tick box, as show in the screen shot below: IMG extension, do NOT add it, as Windows by default hides many file extensions. If you use a Windows PC, the installation is very straightforward and doesn’t require any third party tools and you can follow these step by step installation instructions.
